Philanthropy
Whether helping our national philanthropy (Make-A-Wish Foundation), the University community, or the local community, Chi Omegas make a difference. Each year, we commit to both fundraising and volunteering to help make a difference in the lives of others. In addition to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Chi Omegas at The University of Georgia participate in other University events such as Dance Marathon, Relay for Life, CURE Spring Shag and many more.
SKate FOR WISHES
The Make-A-Wish Foundation was founded in 1980 and grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience through hope, strength, and joy. Nationally, Chi Omega has raised over $20 million dollars and has volunteered over 1,000,000 hours for the Make-A-Wish® Foundation since our partnership was established in 2002.
Our chapter partners with Make-A-Wish® Georgia each year to raise money for local wish kids. In 2022, we had our first ever Skate for Wishes where we sold tickets to come skate at the Georgia Center to make raise money for Make-A-Wish®.
DAWGS FOR A CAUSE
Our spring philanthropy event is a meal on our front lawn, and the proceeds go to benefit an organization near and dear to us. It's always a fun night of good food, good music, and good people. This year, Dawgs For A Cause supported the Christopher Aguirre Memorial Foundation. This foundation was started by one of our very own member’s families when her brother was tragically killed by a drunk driver.
Today, the Christopher Aguirre Memorial Foundation funds the Christopher Aguirre Memorial Scholarship which awards an outstanding Wellington, Florida Community High School senior who is pursuing a degree at Florida State University. More than just funding this amazing scholarship opportunity, the organization’s overall mission is to give back to their community through many educational and athletic programs and to provide opportunities to children and young adults!
